Today I am thankful for...

Welcome to my gratitude blog, which was formerly my 365 project (posts 5/30/10 - 5/30/11). I will continue posting 10 things for which I am grateful to help me (and maybe you too) stay positive.

Here's to optimism, gratitude, and all the simple pleasures of life :)

Being home for a little bit

Question 17: Your first experience with an LGBT organization or event.

Summer of 2009: Pride Parade in San Francisco. I’ve been to some meetings with my university’s LGBT group, but unfortunately they weren’t very memorable… I didn’t really fit in, so I stopped going. Kind of ironic… Anyway, what I felt was my first real experience with an LGBT event was the Pride Parade with none other than my dear Sasquatch and Lezzie. It was pretty amazing.  Guaranteed to be the most colorful thing I’ll ever see in my life. It was filled with people, signs, flags, floats, music, art… and men in leather. Not a lot of leather.

What made it obvious that it was my first time was when the men in leather (whips and all) came through in the parade. I have a tendency to watch someone march by, and follow them as they passed me.  If you’re not interested in man butts, it’s not a good idea to follow them as they pass.  The man next to me laughed at my reaction. It was… definitely a memorable experience :P

Question 18: Something about the LGBTQ community that you don’t understand or have a question about.

The first thing that comes to mind is some people’s attitude about bisexuals, actually. This isn’t true for everyone in the community, but there are some people who, as I mentioned before, don’t believe that the “B” in LGBTQIA is a real sexual orientation. They think we’re indecisive and selfish. It’s kind of ridiculous if they gripe about discrimination for being L, G, T, Q, I, or A and then turn around on someone who’s in the same boat as they are. Why would they judge or pressure bisexuals if they know exactly what it feels like for other people to judge or pressure them? If we’re pressured by people who only believe in heterosexuality and people who only believe in homosexuality, where do we belong?
