Ellen & quesadillas
Fun fact: I haven’t eaten meat all week! I’ve been eating that egg scramble, eggplant, and tomato quesadillas. Some cereal and Pop Tarts may have been thrown into the mix.
Sad fact: I’ve been having lame headaches for the past few days. It’s weird because I very rarely get them unless I am sick, and I have been well hydrated and quite well so far. Possible reasons: fluctuations in heat, intense sunlight, and suddenly giving up coffee. Yeah.
Delicious fact: quesadillas.
Question 13: Your favorite LGBT role model/celebrity.
Ellen, Ellen, Ellen, hands down! I’ve never seen a celebrity, gay or not, with such a wide open heart and genuine smile. She’s hilarious, for one thing; she’s good at her job. She cares about animals. She cares about rights. She loves her wife. She gives and gives. She stands out. She doesn’t care what other people think. She has ADD. She acts with compassion. She dances. She’s my hero.
Fun fact: in my sport sociology class, our professor separated the boys and girls. On one side of the board, she told the girls to write their female role models and traits the “ideal woman” should have. She said the same to the guys (I don’t remember anything more sophisticated than large breasts on their side of the board). I picked up a dry-erase marker and wrote “Ellen Degeneres” at the top of the board. The girls laughed. They thought I was joking.
The first thing someone said was, “She’s a lesbian!”
Awkward silence.
Girl: “Well, there’s nothing wrong with being a lesbian, but it’s just… the way she dresses. She’s not feminine.”
The others agreed. The ideal woman should be heterosexual, feminine, and graceful, right? How cruel women are to their own kind.
