Burgers, scones, and artesian water
The past few days have been an absolute blast with the Private. He arrived at the train station in Northridge and I came to pick him up before lab. I got there just as the train arrived, and he came out, uniform and all, excited to see me. It had only been a few days since my visit in Oceanside, but this was possibly going to be the last time we see each other for a very long time (if he doesn’t make it back from drills before I leave SoCal, it’ll probably be Christmastime).
This guy is so sweet. He knew I had lab, lecture, and group meetings that week, but wanted to come and see me anyway (and gave me space for my responsibilities). He wandered around campus and Northridge while I was in class, and read or played guitar while I studied or did research. He even studied the material with me and let me explain diagrams to him to reinforce the info in my head.
On Friday morning, I was meeting with my lab group for our presentation. He offered to go to Starbucks and asked what I wanted. I told him if they had pumpkin scones, that’d be great. Well, when he came back to the bookstore complex, he was carrying a whole bag of stuff.
Me: “What’s in there??”
Private: “They didn’t have any pumpkin scones, and I wasn’t sure if you just wanted a scone or something pumpkin-flavored… so I got you a maple nut scone, mini vanilla scones, and pumpkin bread.”
Me: *Swoon*
- Having someone to protect me from the creeper who stares
- Hanging out at the park: lessons on how to be aggressive against creepers (“Excuse me, could you PLEASE BACK THE F—- OFF?! …Thank you! ^_^)
- The best cheeseburger of my life: the Widow Maker @ Claim Jumper
- “I knew you were going to yell at me for spending money on flowers, so I cleaned your car!”
- Scones + pumpkin bread = pumpkin scone
- “All the waters were the same price… so I got you PREMIUM ARTESIAN WATER!”
- Sharing popcorn at the movies and laughing at Johnny Depp
- One last night together in Santa Ana
- Feeding the Private doughnut holes in the car while he drove to the National Guard
- Finding that he had hidden his Coin of Excellence in my pillow pal when I got home <3

One of the snacks I packed for the Private for him to eat while I was in class

The to-go box for the Motherload cake from Claim Jumper is the size of a shoebox.

“Slice” of 6-layer decadent chocolate cake. In a shoebox.
