Question 21: Political LGBT issue that is closest to you or affects you most.
I would have to say Prop 8/marriage equality, being a Californian who would someday like to get married. It’s really unfair how someone’s personal life can be dictated by complete strangers who normally don’t really understand the situation. I talked w/a bishop about marriage equality once, and he was under the impression that bisexuals wanted to marry two people and that would lead to all sorts of polygamy, etc. At first I was taken aback by how OFF that was, but I explained to him that that wasn’t the case. We had an interesting talk, but not enough time. Chaplain says he still remembers me, though ;)
I actually want to mention something really cool that a friend of mine did with her wife. It’s lame that we can’t legally marry someone of the same sex in California, but that’s by state law. My friend and her wife got married by the Metropolitan Church in Stockton, so their marriage was recognized by the church. She explained to me that they weren’t going to wait to get married and put their lives on hold just because of some stupid law. I thought that was pretty amazing.
