Getting through this past month
Today Chaplain and I met up for lunch during a break between classes. As I proceeded to throw my face into a hot plate of relatively fresh food (a rarity these days), she asked, “What’s the hardest thing about grad school so far?”
I opened my mouth, and then paused. I wanted to say memorizing every nook and cranny of the human body for anatomy. I thought about trying to balance seven classes and preparing for exams every week. I thought about how I almost broke down this week from sleep deprivation and stress from school. Then I thought about how I don’t have time to cook a fresh and healthy dinner. I stopped singing in the choir. I stopped playing guitar. I stopped blogging. I pretty much stopped talking with people who weren’t in my program or living in my apartment.
I’ve been living under a rock ever since school started. I haven’t had the chance to catch up with my Northridge friends. I don’t talk with Roomie nearly as often as we used to. Lezzie thought that I had exploded.
I’m very blessed to have people in my life who reach out to me. They all know that I’m having a hard time in school, so they make the effort to talk to me if they haven’t heard from me in a while (just to check that I’m still alive, etc.). Roomie has visited Stockton a couple times, Sasquatch emailed me, Lezzie chatted with me, and Chaplain made lunch plans with me. Oh yeah, and CV randomly stalks my window. It sounds creepy, but conversations are more fun when you’re shouting out the window. You guys have no idea how much it means to me when you show that you still want to spend time with me.
- How anything is possible with enough coffee
- Having the support of an amazing boyfriend to get me through the day
- The Private visiting for a little bit (packing me lunch everyday) <3
- Having a snuggle buddy after a long day for the past 2 weeks
- Meowing in distress with Little when times are hard
- Lezzie looking out for me
- Chaplain feeding me and checking on me
- Homework parties with Roomie
- Phone calls with Sasquatch, like old times
- Random texts from Sunshine of the Word
Did I mention that the apartment doesn’t smell like cat feces or vomit? :D :D :D
Watch out, world… I’m going to go to bed and NOT SET AN ALARM.
